PHOENIX, DEMITRI AND LUKA: Up Close and Personal

Seth (and Erin) writes . . .

As promised, here’s my (our) interview with Phoenix, Demitri and Luka . . . and a bonus question with Dray. For those who haven’t been inspired by my recent posts to rush out and read Taste by Kate Evangelista, Demitri, Luka and Dray are Zhamvy – flesh eaters – who live in an ancient world under the Barinkoff Academy where Phoenix goes to school.

Phoenix, flanked by the blonde Luka, and the in-black-haired Demitri

So, my first questions are for . . . Phoenix.

I was trying to think of a word to describe you. Curious-to-the-point-of-recklessness springs to mind. When did you first discover this life-threatening attribute? You must have some childhood story to share with us.

Phoenix: *frowns* As you may know, I’m not a big fan of “sharing” my past with anyone, but since you asked so nicely, I’ll make an exception here. I’ve always been naturally curious, even as a kid. I remember my mother always telling me I’ll end up getting myself in deep trouble if I continued the way I did. I guess meeting the Zhamvy is her words coming true.

Even though being in the Zhamvy’s world was very dangerous for you – translate that as terminal - you wanted to stay there rather than return to the human world. Can you tell us why?

Phoenix: I felt like I belonged in Zhamvy City. *sighs* With my mother gone and my father barely talking to me, I didn’t think I had anything to go back to outside of Zhamvy City. Dray needed me. And helping him find a cure made me feel wanted.

You have an almost luscious way of describing your desire for the two men in your life, Dimitri and Luka. Is that because you’re a naturally sensuous person, or was it a result of the experiments that led you to the Zhamvy?

Erin interjects: Or was it because they were just so HOT?

Phoenix: I have to agree with Erin. Have you seen Demitri and Luka up close? I’m a teenage girl with raging hormones. Add to that Dray’s blasted formula and you get a cocktail of lusty descriptions. *wipes imaginary drool from face*

Erin interjects again . . . What do you like most about Dimitri and Luka? In detail please.

Phoenix: *thinks about it* When it comes to Demitri, I like how determined he can be, and there’s something about being with him that makes me feel safe. I’d always had to fend for myself, so having him carry some of the burden helped me relax. As for Luka, what’s not to like? He feeds my curiosity so well. And ultimately, I think we really connected because of our experiences with our fathers.

This is Seth back in control here. Phoenix, what are you planning to do with your life after school?

Phoenix: I don’t plan that far ahead. A trip with Demitri, finding homes for the Zhamvy, that’s the most important thing right now.

Thanks Phoenix. Now for Demitri . . . The bite our wild Phoenix inflicted on your neck changed your life. What were you thinking when she did that?

Demitri: *contrite expression* I must admit to thinking very little at the time. When the connection was forged, all I did was respond. It took much of my self-control to keep from flinging her onto the bed. It was a difficult time for me.

Just so you know, this is Erin at the keyboard because Seth will never ask Demitri the right questions.

Demitri, you made some pretty radical sacrifices for Phoenix. Describe in one sentence why you love her.

Demitri: She makes me feel alive.

And now for the gorgeous Luka. (I can see Seth frowning at me. He really doesn’t like me swooning over these two hotties! But the experience will do him good)
So Luka, Phoenix is described as your ‘pet’, and, in fact, you even call her “Little Cat”. What was it that first attracted you to her?

Luka: I like her tenacity. *sly smile* She was ready to face Calixta no matter how outmatched she was. I like that in a female.

Phoenix helped you overcome some serious trauma in your life, opening the way for you to take your rightful place in society. Would you have done that if it hadn’t been for her?

Luka: *shakes head* No. Absolutely not. I was content living my life. Or so I thought until my villyat came along.

Seth – and I’m not jealous - at the helm again with a final question for Dray:

You devoted your life to solving a serious health problem experienced by the Zhamvy. Your devotion was reward, but you came up with a radical solution, which, in effect, made the flesh eaters little better than their prey. In a land that is so class conscious, how did you sell this remedy to them?

*pales* That is currently classified information. Who are you again? *sniffs* You smell…different. Would you like to participate…I mean, I have this experiment… *takes out needle*

Whoa! Dray! Not so fast. I have this thing about needles. And strange people doing weird stuff to me.

I think I should take over here. This is Erin, introducing a voice of reason . . .
