Erin writes . . .
Seth and I are
suffering from a serious identity crisis. After living with the title Cursed for so long, our publisher has
now changed the name of our book to Pledged.
Apparently there
are over 250 books and DVDs out there with the word ‘cursed’ in the title – a
publishing no-no, we are told. And
yes, I know, it’s completely insane that this should be happening to us now, so
close to our launch. But it is, and I have to deal with it. What really irritates
me is that this problem could have been avoided if Gwynneth had just done a
simple Google search before naming us. But she didn’t. And even though I’m a
research junkie who could have done it in a blink of an eye, I was too busy
dealing with curses and demons in Shenaya to also have to worry about the
title.
Seth has told me to
chill because he thinks Pledged works much better anyway. He never liked the
previous title. Between you and me, he’s a bit sensitive about curses.
So, to make up for
all mess, I’ve decided to share our book blurb with you. It reads as follows:
Everyone has a soul mate. But what do you do when your
soul mate would rather give his soul to
the demons than be with you?
Seventeen-year-old
Erin has a problem. Seth has been hers forever, but now an ancient curse is
tearing him away. And the demons who invoked it will stop at nothing – even
murder – to claim him as their own.
How
can she win against a curse so binding that it has damned countless others to
this same fate – an eternity alone?
The
answer lies in the past. To find it, Erin and Seth must risk all, travelling
back in time to a dangerous world where love is forbidden, and life – and death
– hang on a pledge.
Follow Erin and Seth as they
travel to ancient Shenaya and confront the curse that has plagued their
families for millennia. Caught in a war between the Angelic Guardians and the Gefallen,
the disembodied dead, they must fight to keep their souls in tact and their
love untainted.
Please tell me what
you think so we don’t have another mishap. Would you rush out and buy Pledged
based on this?
Bye
A nervous and
irritated Erin
Yes. I would and will buy "Pledged." I sincerely love stories with a paranormal element. Setting is important to me and going to ancient Shenaya with Erin and Seth to break a curse sounds thrilling. I had to change my title at the last minute too. It was "My Shoes Don't Fit" for over a year and it took over a year to come up with what I thought was the perfect title. There was one other book with the same title, but it was non-fiction and just about inactive. Even though copyrite laws allows for it, my publisher strongly advised aganist using it. I feel your pain. My book is now titled, "A Stop in the Park" and it has grown on me. I'm rooting for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Peggy
ReplyDeleteI would love to know how you got from "My Shoes Don't Fit" to "A Stop in the Park'! I guess I'll just have to read the book. Intriguing.
Yes, I would buy it based on that blurb. As for the titles, Cursed is much more exciting. Pledged takes some getting used to and doesn't immediately evoke paranormal something or other to me, but that is ok. I am sure the cover will do that so together it will be great! Talk about nerve racking at the 11th hour! But a trailer...and an awesome cover, excellent blurb and your kick-booty story, it will be wonderful! Hang in there :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for my 'blurb' support! And yes, Cursed had something, but I think Pledged will work better.
DeleteUgh what a pain that you had to change the title. That would put me on edge too so I don't blame you. However, I will say that I think it is a blessing not a CURSE (see what I did there!?) because Pledged is a much better title and more memorable. I would read it! x
ReplyDeleteThanks. Much appreciated.
DeleteI think I would rush and buy it the moment I see the blurb! I like the title: Pledged. It's much easier to remember and more intriguing! x) Erin's writing always makes me smile anyway. She seems so different than other heroines! <3 Good luck with your book, Gwyneth! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the vote of confidence, Hilda. And I am different to other heroines - more brains and less looks. Sigh.
